Plotting Deaths Already

Now that the election is closing in all I can think of is the safety of Barack Obama. Everyone knows that there are still violent racist people. Based on an article in Yahoo written by Lara Jakes Jordan the plot for Obama’s assassination has already started. Based on the article, the federal government (ATF) has stopped a plot, which was to kill 102 black people and finally end their killing spree with the assassination of Obama. I am terrified to think that if Obama wins presidency he will not be able to step foot in the white house without first getting killed. The scary part about this is that I have had this conversation with my fellow peers and we have all agreed that the assassination of Obama is realistic and the reason is even more hurtful which is because he is black. As a minority I cannot believe that the United States is still not able to put racism behind us and live in a civil society. Instead Obama is going to have to worry about getting killed because he is trying to make our country a better place. The “neo-Nazis”, skin heads stated that they did not think it would be possible to kill him but that they were going to try to fulfill their goal. I do hope that our federal government is protecting Obama as best as they can. I also think that if Barack Obama is killed our country will be in big problem. Like many people, I believe that if Obama is killed society will be ready to revolt back towards government causing a civil discrepancy. The only last thing to state is the United States needs to stop its racist ways and accept the positive movement forward, and not try to plot deaths.

Sad as it is, I must agree that Obama has a higher probability of being killed in office because of his race. But I think this shows that as a society we need to start dealing with racial inequality and treatment of each other differently. It seems like talking about race is so taboo that we pretend it doesn't exist. Yes, the topic is uncomfortable, but it does affect the majority of Americans. We are a racist society whether we like it not, and to be honest, I think everyone is a tiny bit racist, even if they don't realize it. Schools need to start discussing the issue so we can begin to stop the negativity between races. As a generation we must dissect what makes us racist so we can begin to deal with the problem. Because the topic is so uncomfortable, we tend to sweep confused or negative feelings under the rug, or deny that we have any racist attitudes harbored within us. But, only by admitting our racist feelings can we find a solution and ultimately form a society based on equality. If someone had a prejudice against me because I am white, I would want to discuss the warrant behind it rather than know that there is hate lurking beneath the surface. I think implementing communal or educational forums on racial tensions could help decrease racial hate crimes, and improve communities. Racial stereotypes also need to be broken down within the media and Hollywood in order for racial “norms” to be broken down. When we see images giving certain representations to races through movies and television, we begin to accept these as true, essentially becoming brainwashed. In one of the articles we read in class, it was said that African Americans would often be cast in jail scenes, and Latinos would be cast as gangsters or drug addicts. These representations must be torn down so that a new environment of equality can be created.

However, I am a bit confused by the claim that Obama's death would lead society into a revolt against the government. It would be a tragedy for society, and provoke a lot of suppressed anger about racial differences, but I hardly see this being taken out on the government. Should Obama be assassinated Joe Biden would console the nation and begin to play his role as president. He is white, so an attack for the same purpose on him would be highly unlikely. But overall I see no warrant as to why people would revolt against the state…

There would definitely be riots if thats what you mean. The United States has to protect all presidents, yes Obama because he is black and at risk, but also in general I feel presidents need to protected more carefully from skin heads, terrorists, crazy people who disagree, whatever. I think protection should have been improved even before this threat on Obama because we all know how vulnerable presidents are to being shot regardless. It shouldn't have taken something like this to get the attention of the public safety but race issues can speed a lot of processes.

This is such a sad and unfortunate way of looking at what might happen to the next president of the United States of America. Lets just hope foolish acts of Violence never happen to any of the candidates.
